SYNOPSIS: What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

REVIEW:

We ended the last book when Jace was missing from the top of the building where Lilith was destroyed. At the beginning of City of Lost Souls, Jace is still missing and Clary can’t really help her self not to feel guilty of Jace missing. The Clave is searching all around for Jace and Sebastian, but no one knows how to find them.

When one night Jace come to Clary’s bedroom with Sebastian and ask her to follow them, Clary knows that in front of her there isn’t the Jace she know, but another guy, because wouldn’t follow Sebastian for all the gold in the world.

The book is focused on the relation between Jace and Sebastian, but we could also see how Simon try to explain  his sister his new situation of being, how Izzy has to deal with her feelings for Simon and how Alec let himself tempted by an old friend of Magnus.

The situation between Jordan and Maya seem to be finally solved. Clary in City of Lost Souls, make you see how strong she’s despite the terrible situation that afflicts her family and her daily life.

Clare has always this capacity to describe with a lot of details and I found this chapter of the series more absorbing than the previous.
