The Shadowhunter Codex

I am so sorry, last time I posted something was the 18th of december, an amount of time ago! Let me wish you sincerly a happy new year and that you have passed amazing holidays! I will love to hear something of your holidays. Let’s start the new year with some books I read last year.

THE SHADOWHUNTER’S CODEX

The Shadowhunter’s Codex is one of the extension of the Shadow World, a sort of guide. This Codex was written both by her and Joshua Lewis (but we all know that was written by the Clave!). It was published in 2013.

SYNOPSIS:

Since the thirteenth century, the Shadowhunter Codex has been the one and only manual for Shadowhunters looking to brush up on their demon languages, learn proper stele use, and discover just what exactly a pyxis is. Featured in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, this guide is a necessity for any young Nephilim on their journey to becoming a Shadowhunter. Beautifully illustrated, the Codex contains images of the famous Shadowhunter homeland of Idris, as well as depictions of demons and other Downworlders.

REVIEW:

The Shadowhunter Codes is half giude, half encyclopedia and manual of the Shadow’s world. It’s an helpful supplement to “The Mortal Instruments” that will explain and help you adventuring through this world. As a new Shadowhunter who is ascending or one who has just ascended you have to read this.

From the descriprtion of demons, to the most used runes and stories about Nephilim’s history, the creation of the Silent Brothers and the Iron Sister. One of the section that I was deeply interested about was the one about the Downworlders and their description. The part about Warlocks was my favourite! I found very interesting the part of Parabatai, it was something I wanted to read about so much. I love the ought of Parabatai and I found very interesting the informations about the bond and about the first Parabatai of Nephilim history.

Entreat me not to leave thee,
Or return from following after thee—
For whither thou goest, I will go,

And where thou lodgest, I will lodge.
Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried.
The Angel do so to me, and more also,
If aught but death part thee and me.

I also found pretty peculiar the description of Idris and also the map, but something that I always wanted to know were some more informations about the Silent City.

The all Codex can seem a boring and very haughty (and in some part it is!) but thanks to the drawings of Clary and to the comments to the side of the pages of her, Simon and Jace, the reading can be appreciate more. I found very funny that Simon always write to the couple to take a room in a motel!

Something that I really missed were the first pages with the coloured illustrations that in the Italian version were missing, but I saw it in the web and were amazing.

THE AUTHOR:

Cassandra Clare (real name Judy Rumelt) was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran in July 27, 1973. As a child she travelled frequently around the world, always with lots of books in the suitcase. She returned to Los Angeles for high school, and from then on split her time between California and New York, where she worked at various entertainment magazines and tabloids. City of Bones was her first novel, published in 2007. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her two cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants.
